Dipping the candles

melted the tallow in the microwave. When melted it goes yellow.

ere are the wicks after the first dipping, hanging over the sink.

hope when I clean up the sink that hot water will carry the tallow far enough down my waste water pipes that when it solidifies it will not be my problem.

ere they are after about ten dips.

They are lumpy and ugly and this is because rather than dipping them vertically into a tall deep container of melted tallow I am laying them down in a long shallow container.

knew I needed a tall narrow container to do this and am puzzled at why I am using this obviously inferior method!

ere they are again after some more dipping. Ugly little spuds aren't they!

Actually, they look uglier in real life the photo doesn't really do them justice!

used these candles at a feast where they worked just fine. You do feel a bit like the poor country cousin when everyone else has beeswax. But at least you can feel one up on the white parafin candles often seen.
